Hayley McQueen – Tackling football in heels
Sky Sports News Presenter Hayley McQueen talks to David Hearnhead about growing up in a famous football family and paving her own way to a career in television.
Born in Manchester, McQueen has a natural affinity with Manchester United. It was the team her father Gordon played for from ’78 to ’85, and later it was where she landed her first presenting job with MUTV. When Gordon took the family north to take up a coaching role with Bryan Robson on Teeside, she became a Middlesbrough fan by default. This was the era when Boro re-entered the national conscious by signing big name player such as Fabrizio Ravanelli, Juninho, and Emerson.
“I know, it’s a bit girly supporting two teams, but you follow them because you want your family to do well.” Football has long been the family business. She even has a soft spot for Accrington Stanley as her grandfather played in goal for them in the early fifties.
