Professional Player visited ’59 New Street – Chef Tim De’Ath

Professional Player was invited along to meet Tim De-Ath, chef of the England national football team, at his restaurant ‘59 New Street’ in Chelmsford. After a background of working in the film industry, Tim has now done two world cups and three European Championships “a privileged but challenging role” he told us.

59 New Street opened in September 2013 and has become increasingly popular. The former Police Cell venue is also a great opportunity to get close to some of the country’s leading Football stars; Kevin Nolan, Joe Cole, Andy Carroll, Joey O’Brien, Mark Noble and James Collins, who all have an insatiable love of food and saw 59 New Street and its unique Chelmsford setting as the ideal place to ignite their passion.

Once the holding cells for Chelmsford’s Magistrates Court, many of the original handcuffs can still be seen hanging from the ceiling relating the venue’s sobering past with its graceful present. Tim told us “there is even a tunnel that leads from the building beneath the road to the actual court rooms as prisoners would have travelled” Wherever you are in the restaurant there is something interesting on show.

The food is rustic and elegant fine dining, classic dishes focused on the seasonality of the products used perfectly complimented by the comprehensive wines on offer. The staff were courteous, smart and knowledgeable. This is definitely a restaurant to visit if you want the distinct feeling of having eaten something extraordinary.
